A bit about me...
Maria Hellyer – B Shift, Sustainability Consultants and B Corp Certifications
I’m an International Trade and Sustainability Consultant. and have worked with both the British and New Zealand Governments to drive international trade.
Over the past 25 years, I have worked with hundreds of organisations helping them scale their business in international markets. During this time, I have observed a growing demand from the market for companies to be able to express the impact of their business, not just in terms of carbon emissions but also how they treat their staff, how they engage with the local community, customers and suppliers and how these metrics are increasingly becoming part of the purchasing decision.

I am qualified to help you. I studied sustainable business leadership with Cambridge University and completed the B Leaders equivalent course – Scotland Can B funded by the Scottish Government. I aim to bring a thoughtful, strategic, and collaborative approach to each project.
Through my work with the British and New Zealand Governments and now, with my own venture, B Shift, I’ve had the opportunity to support businesses through the complexities of the B Corp process, offering practical, end-to-end support to become certified.
My background includes a postgraduate qualification in Sustainable Business Leadership from the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), along with a B Leaders equivalent course through Scotland Can B, a Scottish Government initiative. I have also studied finance at the London School of Economics and hold a degree in Law. This blend experience allows me to craft sustainability solutions that are both impactful and commercially sound.
My journey has been one of continuous learning, from leadership roles in the USA and Hong Kong to leading an artisan food business in the UK. Whether supporting SMEs with B Corp certification or sustainable growth strategies, I’m committed to helping businesses thrive while doing good for people and the planet.
